Overview
PlayStation's internal tooling platform: 19 applications and six widgets serving streaming, broadcast, network, test and QA teams — users in Berlin, Aliso Viejo and Tokyo, ~150 daily active users (2022 baseline).
Achievement
As accountable product owner I ran the platform's portfolio and governance. Under this scope the teams consolidated eight applications into one streaming app and retired eleven legacy apps and dashboards (2024), completed the migration to the new platform design, and retired the legacy public-access VMs (2024).
Outcomes
- ◆ Platform baseline 2022: 19 applications, six widgets, ~150 daily active users across three sites
- ◆ Team result (2024): eight applications consolidated into one; eleven legacy apps and dashboards retired
- ◆ New platform design rolled out across all tool teams (2024)
- ◆ Legacy public-access VMs retired (2024); implementing engineers credited
- ◆ Platform reliability: ~99.9% successful-request rate against a 99.5% target (2022, team-reported)
- ◆ Load-tested to 500 concurrent users for broadcast scenarios (2022)
- ◆ Eight further applications sunset in 2022 (separate from the 2024 retirements)
Key Learning
Running a platform used by operational teams showed me that adoption comes from reliability and fit to the workflow, not from feature count.
